The Quest for a Shoe

April 15, 2008

This past Sunday, after a hectic bout with the indomitable Taxes I headed out into the wilderness of the Quakerbridge mall to obtain ink for my printer so that I could finish the bout against taxes by printing and signing them. Once my sister heard that I was headed towards the mall, she got ready in an instant to go on a shopping spree. All she waits for is someone to go to the mall and she will bust out her coupon folder which holds a variety of discount coupons from the array of stores that she visits. So I decided that since I will be waiting for her to do her shopping, I might as well get what I have been wanting to get for a long time.

I had a pair of Nike running shoes that I had gotten from the Jackson outlet mall, which were very comfortable, light, and good looking. But after about a year and a half of good service they wore out during an indoor soccer game. Since then I have been wearing a pair of cheap Reebok shoes that my sister had gotten for me. But, I haven’t liked the shoes since I got them. They are heavy and they keep snagging my ankle bone. Hence it was time to upgrade to a new shoe.

I park my car in a heavily crowded parking lot where people are circling the lots like vultures to find the closest parking spot. As I walk into the mall, I am pounced upon by all the different smells from each store. As I pass each entrance, a different smell enters my nostrils that leave my olfactory glands exhausted and disgusted. All I wanted to do was buy shoes and here I am attacked by all the different smells giving me a headache. I make my way to the shoe store and select the shoe I want. But I had to hang around wait until my sister finished her shopping then go back to the shoe store get her approval. Finally, we were able to get out of the mall and head towards the circuit city which was just outside the mall. We got the ink and headed home. I was then able to sign my tax forms and start my journey towards the great South (Jersey)!! haha.

Airport

February 20, 2008

I was at the airport this past Monday, which was Presidents Day, to pick up my sisters who were returning from their three week trip to India. Luckily when I reached the airport there wasn’t too much traffic at the arrivals so I just parked right outside the gates where people are only supposed to be there for a few minutes for loading the luggage into the car. The police weren’t enforcing it maybe because there wasn’t any congestion. So once I parked the car I went in and waited near the gate where all you see is a huge white pillar in the middle of the ramp and two shiny stainless steel doors on either side of the pillar. In the waiting area there are a bunch of seats where all the people wait for their loved ones to arrive. People arriving from these flights came out of the big steel doors with their luggage. There was an instance that I was intrigued by the most. (I don’t think intrigued is the correct word to use for this case but whatever).
A couple came out of the big steel doors and there were three kids waiting near the exit of the officiated part of the terminal. The youngest of them holding a bouquet. All of them standing in height order which also happened to be the order of their ages. I guess at that age they older one still is taller than their younger siblings. As soon as the parents came through the gate the kids started giggling, hugging, crying. I guess all I can say is that it brought a smile on my face. It kinda reminded me of the scene from the movie Love Actually where they show all the people coming out of the terminal in hordes and all their loved ones are so happy to see each other. It was a very heart-warming incident.
About 10 minutes after that the cops started moving people from the waiting area so I had to go move my car and run in circles around the terminals till my sisters came out. Luckily I had to go around just once. :)

The Weirdest Dream

February 20, 2008

I had the weirdest dream around new years. I wanted to write about it a while ago, but didn’t get a chance to. So, before I forget more about it I am gonna write down as much as I can recall of it.
So in my dream, I was sitting in a class taught by Rossmann, and then suddenly he decides to teach Oku. He asks who is interested in learning it and the whole class agrees. For those who don’t know what oku is, oku is the healing art in Jujitsu. Say you lost consciousness cause someone decked you then I could come in handy in bringing you back to consciousness. Or let’s say you are hyperventilating, or got kicked in the groin….. Those are the only ones I have learned so far (also for cases with more severity of the aforementioned). So he started off with a couple of stretches which took quite a while for them being stretches. By the time the stretches were done I woke up. There was also a class mate of mine who was highlighted in my dream. Apparently Judy also practiced some for of martial art and she was there in some kind of fancy warrior princess like one from Soul Calibur II.
That was all a part of my dream. The weirdest part was that I remembered most of it when I woke up, but I didn’t write down the details for me to remember when I write this journal entry. So that’s all the details I remember as of now.

Message Board

November 29, 2007

I have a message board on my desk so people can leave me messages when I am not there. I thought it would be a good idea since I am not there twice a week. My message boards now read
Kareoke 2nite? - Kellie PS: I’m going to win!!
which clearly says that Kellie wrote the message. but underneath it is
Cross roads of life? FUN!!
this person wasn’t courteous enough to leave their name on the board. And now the person has left me pondering as to what that means or what it is supposed to mean. GREAT!!!
Also the F in the fun is written in such a way that it also looks like a “not equal to” sign. So this is just me over analyzing something that is not supposed to affect me.
Also I just made a fool out of myself in my professor’s office. how could I miss the mass/sec x meter-squared. I missed the second from that parameter and assumed it finally came out to be mass flow rate instead of total mass. great. this is just awesome. well at least now i know what to correct and how to obtain what i need.

Same Mistake - James Blunt

November 27, 2007

So while I’m turning in my sheets
And once again I cannot sleep
Walk out the door and up the street
Look at the stars beneath my feet
Remember rights that I did wrong
So here I go

Hello, hello

There is no place I cannot go
My mind is muddy but
My heart is heavy does it show
I lose the track that loses me
So here I go

And so I sent some men to fight
And one came back at dead of night
Said he’d seen my enemy
Said he looked just like me
So I set out to cut myself
And here I go

I’m not calling for a second chance
I’m screaming at the top of my voice
Give me reason, but don’t give me choice
Cause I’ll just make the same mistake again

And maybe someday we will face
And maybe talk but not just speak
Dont buy the promises cause
There are no promises I keep
and my reflection troubles me
So here I go

I’m not calling for a second chance
I’m screaming at the top of my voice
Give me reason, but don’t give me choice
Cause I’ll just make the same mistake

I’m not calling for a second chance
I’m screaming at the top of my voice
Give me reason, but don’t give me choice
Cause I’ll just make the same mistake again

So while I’m turning in my sheets

And once again I cannot sleep

Walk out the door and up the street

Look at the stars

Look at the stars falling down

And I wonder where

uhuuuu uhuuuu uhuuuu
Did I go wrong

The Missing Piece of the Puzzle

September 26, 2007

I finally found the solution to all my troubles, I think. I think I have found the piece that might improve my life a lot.
“Never be satisfied in what you do, Always strive to do better than your last attempt” - Me while driving
I think this will help me succeed in two regions of my life a lot.
That’s it for now. I will update once I get another chance.

Soccer

August 13, 2007

Today was an excellent day. I left work around 4 and got home. I had dinner and headed over to Rutgers to play some quality soccer. I had a lot of fun. I scored 4 goals, one of which was an own goal. hahahaha. i was trying to defend the ball and kicked it into my own goal. we weren’t playing full court 90 minutes soccer, the field was kinda small, we played with cones. it was really good. I hope I can play every MWF. it will definitely get me in shape for the regular season!!

Cricket!!

August 9, 2007

So I got to play cricket this past Saturday, the 15th of July. We fielded first and I was fielding at the short third man position. I misfielded the very first ball that was hit to my side. It was the first ball of the innings as well. I gave away only one run on that ball. But The rest of the match I fielded pretty well. I was moved to a lot of different positions. Considering this was my first match ever with a seasoned ball, I played pretty decent but not good enough for my standard. The other team scored 167 runs in 40 overs. It was our team’s turn to bat. Since this was my first match with a leather ball, i was pretty nervous when it was my turn to bat. I was able to play 2 balls and on the third one i was out. But in my defense everyone on our team thought that the bowler was chucking.
But the second match that i played was much better. although we needed to score a lot of runs and it was pretty much hopeless, i was pretty confident of batting. n the very first ball I faced I scored 2 runs. Then on the next ball I defended the ball, and on the third I scored a run. I told the other batsman who was on strike to take it easy as it was a new bowler. he was a pretty easy bowler to face. but the other guy went to smack the ball and struck out clean bowled. So that was the end of my innings. i was so hyped up that day to play, cause i thought i was in good shape to play. oh well. i haven’t gotten a call since cause the players who went away in vacations are back. so they get first call. I hope i get to pay again this summer.
Although i have started playing soccer pretty regularly. we started playing soccer last Wednesday the 1st of August. I played really well. I was running pretty well too. We played again yesterday. I was tired I think because of the coffee i was drinking to keep me awake during the drive up. but after I drank a lot of water I was good to play again. I think i am gon astart coming up to Rutgers everyday to play soccer on MWF, and jujitsu on TTh. Sounds like a good workout plan.

I finally updated,. My update about Jaina is coming up. I have the draft started, I still have to write the major portion of it. :)

The busiest day of my life!!

July 13, 2007

If I recall correctly, yesterday was the busiest day I recall having in a long time. It started as any other Thursday morning during the summer, except I had the day off from Atlantic City so I could spend my day at Rutgers and go to all the meetings and appointments I had gotten myself into. Until lunch time I was waiting for a particular e-mail and trying to get my hands on the specifications for a mass flow meter for my experiment. It was a usual gathering for the lunch committee with a fewer people showing up than last time. We still had fun. We managed to threaten Farnaz into going to lunch with us, and the rest came willingly. After a good lunch, I stopped by Rossmann’s office to see if he was in and was willing to hold my meeting before it was scheduled to be. He was in his office and free to talk to me. So I had a chat with him about my research. I don’t wanna talk about it. I feel like I did everything wrong. But I am working on fixing the things and getting things done.
So after that meeting I went back to my desk forgetting that I had a doctor’s appointment at 2:30 at Hurtado for the ache in my arm that I though was from a piece of a night lamp that I broke in 2002. I was doing some push ups (trying to get into shape) after which my right arm started to hurt a little below the scars that were left from the wound. I thought it would take really long for the doctor’s appointment, but it was rather quick and I was out of there by 2:45. The doctor actually remembered me from when I had visited him for the rib cage injury from the jujitsu convention in 2005. Or he must have just read my file and remembered it from that. Either way it felt good. He checked my arm and apparently it was nothing. Let’s hope it remains that way cause it still hurts sometimes. After that I hurried over to Werblin for the jujitsu e-board meeting with Linda Yost, the director of Sports Clubs at Rutgers. We waited for half an hour for her to come out of her previous meeting. She was surprise to see 5 of us there. She said that it was a surprise attack. In any case, the meeting went rather well compared to what all of us had thought up before hand. We had all imagined it to be a constant battle of arguments. We got done with that around 4:15, after which we headed over to the student center to hold a meeting with our Sensei, who also acts as the instructor for the club. We updated her on what went on in the meeting and discussed a couple other things with her. After that I headed straight to the Engineering building to the HPV meeting. As usual waited for the people to come. So I got a couple minutes of rest. We discussed a couple of important issues in the meeting and made sure we come back with ideas at the next meeting.
The day was still alive as I still had one more event left for the night. Jujitsu!! I hadn’t been to jujitsu in I think 2 weeks, so going back was exciting. Once I warmed up with stretches and stuff, We started doing rolls and falls. This was when I felt the pain all the muscles feel when you land cause you stopped falling on it regularly and forgot the feeling. It always happens. I stop for a couple of weeks and when I go back the first fall stings like a bee. As Jose and I finished the rolls and falls first while the others were still doing it, she came over to me, and told me that I would be teaching the class how to do a sutemi (stimi) whatever you want to call it. On top of that, I had to teach it the way I hadn’t learned it. She said that the way I learned it causes people to twist their bodies which leads to bad sutemi’s. So I had to think about this and give feedback to everyone individually. It was terrible. Apparently according to Barb, I did a good job, cause there was a white belt who was learning this for the first time and he was able to do a decent sutemi. I give credit to the “First Time’s Luck” luck. Anyways, so after I taught that, Jose and I got to work on our green belt stuff by ourselves. We have learnt all the techniques we need for the next level. It’s just a matter of time before we write out notebooks and polish our techniques really well. At the of the night, Barb told me to get ready for the next time I come to jujitsu cause she is going to ask me to teach bridge falls. She says I do it well. Just cause I do it well doesn’t mean I know how to teach it to somebody. waaah. Oh I’m looking forward for an exciting jujitsu session next week. After jujitsu ended, Meghan, Sam, Steve, and I did some groundwork. We took turns taking on each other. Sam and steve got me in the same technique I always get caught in. The leg scissors, Sam scissored my body incorrectly which is why my back is messed up. Samm you owe me a massage. jk. My whole body is messed up now because of that. So while my back was hurting I did groundwork with meghan. And guess what technique she used on me… you got that right, the scissors. what a wonderful day. But luckily she wasn’t able to get it as tightly as the other two massive people. So I was able to escape it and I have no idea what I got her with. I think it was the scissors.
Well, top of all this I will be playing cricket in New Brunswick tomorrow which is gonna punish my body and I know it. It is going to be an awesome day. Lately I have been packing in so much stuff inside a day. Saturday is going to be busy cause Neel is coming over and once I am done playing cricket we’ll go laptop shopping for him and all that cool stuff. My cousins from Michigan stayed behind after the Jaina convention and they are here, have to make plans so everyone gets included and somehow make it to the same place on time and do something together is really hard especially for Indians…muhuahahaha. I’m going crazy!!!!
